The Rocking Stone in Pontypridd is a stone circle approximately 2 miles from Rhydyfelin. It has been a focal point of the community for centuries. It is a glacial rock from the Ice Age that remains as a meeting spot within the community. The main stone in the middle is known as “Gorsedd” which translates to ‘throne’ in English.
In the early 1800s, Iolo Morgannwg, a Celtic Bard, used the location for the Meeting of the Bards. There are other stone circles in similar formations used for meetings during the same time period.

Walking with your dog from Rhydyfelin to the Rocking Stone is approximately a 2 mile walk, with a gentle incline towards the end of the walk. You can walk towards the Rocking Stone through Coedpenmaen from the Glyntaf Roundabout. Be extremely careful crossing at the roundabout. The route is mostly along streets, but it’s very rewarding and quite a nice walk.
There are some stunning views from the Rocking Stone so it’s definitely worth a visit if you live locally.
