Broadband can be a right pain, especially if you live in South Wales where high speed internet isn’s always available. Fortunately, that’s not the case here in Rhydyfelin! It’s difficult to know what deals are available and even if they can be trusted! I’ve tested the broadband market thoroughly to find some great broadband deals for Rhydyfelin.
Rhydyfelin is currently undergoing a full fibre upgrade. This means that OpenReach (BT) will be installing 10GB Fibre into all the existing telegraph poles, this can then be connected to individual properties by broadband suppliers. This rollout of fibre replaces the old broadband exchanges using DSL technology.
Virgin Media does not use the OpenReach Network, they use their own underground network running on technology called DOCSIS3.1. This is a partial fibre network, which can deliver very fast internet speeds. But it’s not as fast as the newer 10GB Full Fibre. Virgin Media’s underground network is at its capacity, whereas the newer fibre technology can offer 10x faster speeds than Virgin Media currently can.
At the moment, Virgin Media offer the fastest guaranteed download speeds in Rhydyfelin, but this will change in the near future when fibre is available more widely.
Some properties are receiving internet via copper cables instead of fibre. Fibre is the faster of the two, but only full fibre offers the best experience.
When it comes to 5G reception, 5G is available in Rhydyfelin but the signal is patchy and often reverts back to 4G. This should also improve over the next few months and years as new masts and transmitters are installed.
